8mm -> tape

I have some old 8mm films (family movies, both Standard 8 and Super 8) that I would like transferred to VHS tape and/or CD.

Can anyone please recommend a reliable source for getting this done?

Thanks.

A quick search on Google led me to some one who does it for you ( http://www.homemoviesoncd.com/8mmfilm.htm ). Maybe some one with more experience with this can tell you if you could just do this yourself.

The way I did this was to use the projecter to play the old film, and I put my camcorder on a tripod and taped it right off the screen. Not real high tech, but the price is right

Monty I did the exact same thing!
And not only is the price right but its just as good if not better!
Plus I really like the sound of the projector so when you watch the vid its like youre really watching the film. Beats some corny music they otherwise put on!

Thanks again for all your replies.

Unfortunately, I no longer have access to a projector. I just wondered if anyone had used a copying company and could recommend it.

BOF you should try to find one locally. Im not sure how many of us know any in Hong Kong! Don't mail them anywhere!
Maybe you can rent a projector or find someone who has one. You might find one in an antique shop or something.

Thanks, David - I've looked around here in Hong Kong but can't find such a service. I had thought of mailing my films to the States, or elsewhere - but your cautionary note has me thinking. They are, of course, irreplaceable, and maybe I shouldn't take the chance!

Back to the drawing board! I'll try to find a projector and do the job myself. Thanks again for the help.

Best regards to all.
