Hello
I want to know how SSL works and how can I use it to configure and establish secure communication between a browser and Microsoft IIS on a LAN. Any tutorials are welcome..

A good start would be the SSL 3.0 spec:

You can probably also find additional info by searching for SSL and TLS (Transport Layer Security) using your favorite search engine.
