Small favor to ask

Okay, I'll spill the beans... I don't know what half the stuff in my stats means. Ya, certain stuff I can grasp like referrers, ua's, etc... But as far as numbers go, I'm at a loss. Here's what it says for the month of December (so far);

Hits => 20177
Files => 15721
Pageviews => 11181
Sessions => 2050

Would someone please tell me if that's good/bad/indifferent please? Basicly what's going on is that I don't think I have enough money, and I'm considering selling adspace on my domain. However, I know enough about stats that if you have low numbers, it's harder to sell adverts. I know my numbers aren't huge or anything, but are they good enough?

Thanks for any help.

For Dec... so far...

DHearts.org
Hits => 1458209
Files => 759160
Pageviews => 152936
Sessions => 32804

Aota net...
Hits = >104643
Files = >70535
Pageviews = > 13449
Sessions = >3435

You may really want to visit http://www.netstore.de/Supply/http-analyze/results.html for a definition of terms and explanation of what everything means...

An important note to remember is that you do not sell ads by bragging about how many 'hits' your site gets... because most understand now that a "hit" is not a valid calculation for things like this. If you have one page with two images and someone loads it up, it will count as three hits.. because 3 files were called for.

Those buying ads want to know how many unique visits you are receiving... For this you are given a better estimate via your "Pageviews" as this only counts the text files loaded like .html .htm and .txt etc... rather then couting every file.

So from what you are showing it looks like 2,050 visits... as opposed to 20,1777 hits.

Is it enough to sell ads? Who knows.. I've seen worse selling ads.. and I've seen ten times better not make a dime. The key is finding someone willing to pay for ads that you can provide a targetted audience for.

What I do know is that it can not hurt to try

Hehehe ya, I knew you'd do that *g* And now I know what all that stuff means! The pics are neat too, is there really a little robot guy with sunglasses inside your server Terra?

And there y'all go again, answering posts at the same time *grin*

Ack Deb! You scared me! It's 11,000 pageviews, not 2,000 I thought I had this all figured out, then you threw that at me hehehe

I've tried most of them out there..if you want to go that way I can tell you which ones pay the best (and which ones don't pay at all)

Hi everyone! I have some good insight on selling ad space and also a question for FQuest about the stats. First, let me talk about making money from advertising ...

My web site is BIG, it features music, fashion, sports, discussion, more. We get a lot of traffic (20,000+ page views per day) and we "live" off our ad revenues. The average ad rate on the net is between $10 and $20 per 1,000 impressions (CPM). Yahoo makes about $40 CPM. My web site gets less than $3 CPM. It has little to do with traffic, but about the targetted audience. And unfortunatly, since my web site is so big it's hard for us to sell targetted ad space. Therefore, I'm signed up with several advertising networks. Ad networks represent a lot of other advertisers. You place thier code on your pages and ads are randomly displayed. Usually you're paid per click.

We have a great relationship with valueclick.com . I highly recomend ValueClick for selling ad space. If you sign up, my referral code is h0003200 . I'm also with safe-audit.com but I've had some problems with them in the past. They're alright, better than the average ad network.

If you have any questions, maybe I can answer them because I've been involved in the net advertising biz for awhile now. I know, it can be confusing sometimes.

Now, FutureQuest ... what's a GIG? Most web hosts measure traffic with gigs and I'm just wondering what it is compared to Bytes and MBs. My stats show me the KBytes transfered per day. To my understanding, 1,000,000 bytes is a gig. But, I'm probably wrong. hehe.

/me raises hand and bounces in her chair...

ooh ooohhh I know this one! Pick me Pick me!!
*grin* (sorry I'm in a strange mood today

1 bit = "1" or "0"

8 bits = 1 byte

1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte (kb)

1,048,576 bytes or 1,024(Kb) = 1 megabyte(mb)

1,073,741,824 Bytes or 1,024 mbs = 1 gigabyte(gig or gb)

1,099,511,627,776 Bytes or 1,024 gigs = 1 terrabyte

Seeeee I told you I knew this one

ok, thanks. heavy stuff. I've never been any good in math. so ... Looking at our stats, it would take roughly 1,000,000 KBytes/day to equal 1 gig per day. right?
