Need help setting up a Linux box.

First time playing with Linux and lots of questions.

I am setting up a Linux box (Version 5.1) to have a real local server to test my web pages on. It's just a old 486 with 20MB ram and 610 WD hard drive. I don't have a net work card yet, so I am trying to set it up as a ISP and use my "telco-in-a-box" to connect.

I can dial in, and connect fine. Can't figure out why a root logon will not work over the connection. Anyother logon will work find.

Also, if I am not root, It gives me this error...

Code Sample:

/usr/sbin/pppd: must be root to run /usr/sbin/pppd, since it is not setuid-root.

..when ever I try to start my pppd script. Can't figure it out. pppd has so many options, I can't figure out what one to use.

Thanks

Eddie
