.jpg --> .mpg (or other animated file format) editor...

My daughter is totally loving a project she's working on at school - making a claymation movie, using iMovie on an iMac.  She'd like to do the same thing at home, but I balked at "...so can we buy Dad an iMac instead of a new PC?"  (She knows we are planning to get him a new one soon.)

Ummm, no - but thanks for asking.

So, this is just not an area I've delved into - we have the digital camera, but I don't know what utility compiles them into movie files.

(And I'd rather get one of those, than an iMac . . . )

PS, our Mavica does actually shoot .mpg files, but she wants to be able to use .jpg files for stop motion stuff, and compile accordingly.

Sony computers come with quite a bit of video editing software and connections, although I had nothing but trouble with my Sony PC...

Apple QuickTime Pro is a very good option.  You can easily convert a series of JPEG's into a movie (QuickTime, Avi).  It won't help much if you need to edit the JPEG's before conversion, for that you'll need a photo editor.  Paint Shop Pro will probably do.
