What Roger said. Plus, I didn't see any way to register or sign up for the give away.

This will undoubtedly rub some people the wrong way, but why is it that so much shady internet activity originates from the UK?  I can think of a few explanations, but they don't seem to carry much weight.  And yes, I consider misleading advertising a shady activity, albeit a fairly non-severe one.

There is nothing dodgy about our competition at all.  We don't make any money out of it and besides we've been given 3 copies to do as we please, so we are giving them to people who visit our site by the means of a prize draw.  Everyone who visits our site then has a fair and random chance of winning.   You may judge people in the UK badly who run websites, but tend not to include your own country!

Download Soft-ware is run more as a hobby, not a business and it is in no way profit making.  So you cant really judge a book by its cover!  If you look at the time the original message was posted, it was getting quite late and I was tired and did not expect anyone to see the message until the following day (UK time!)  If you look at the web site today in an hours time you will find that competition is there!

Have a good day

My apologies for putting you on the spot, but the point still stands that posting a somewhat less-than-truthful "ad" a week before the planned opening date (with no mention of that, mind you) is highly questionable.

Any idea what my country actually is?     I knew it would rub someone the wrong way...  I never said all or most shady activity origniates from the UK, but would anyone question that more than the "fair" percentage does?  It gets to the point where many people are suspicious of such situations, and if I were a UK webmaster, I would feel the responsibility to go out of my way to ease any suspicions, not magnify them.

It may not be fair, but very few people have any way of seeing the big picture to judge you by.

I'd like to know why that advertisement didn't meet the definition of Spam and get yanked? It's clearly a blatant, unsolicited advertisement of questionable merit. To make it worse, it was cross-posted to multiple forums. I understand that FQ has to give site owners a bit more leeway than they give to non-members spamming these boards, but that sets a dangerous precedent.

For future reference, are all FQ site owners now entitled to spam this board for personal gain? I can certainly build my traffic and my income by offering some prize at a nebulous future date and using that lure to harvest visitor info that can be sold for profit. I choose to have a bit more integrity than to stoop to such methods, but I'd like to know if it's okay. Can I advertise those schemes in here? These forums are quite useful, but that will be greatly diminished if they turn into a spam-riddled, advertising fest like Usenet.

I guess you cant please everyone!  For those of you who ARE interested, the competition is there for you to enter and the first draw is on the 25th. The original message was posted last night(so it's not a week!)

I apologise to everyone for putting the competition on a half a day late, but hey I'm only human.

Before this gets too much out of hand I am not getting involved in this any more.
