Is there a way to prevent viewing of the index page ?

Hi,
i'm currently developping my site, and I don't want anyone to see what is on the index.shtml page.
Since we can't htacess the www.... is there a way to block anyone (except me) from viewing this page and any page in www while i'm developping ?

I know I could just rename the index page while I'm working, but I really need to have the index page of my site with some documents inside.

Thanks,
Benj

Since you are using a .shtml extension, try tossing a blank or "coming soon" index.html page in there.

.html and .htm will be shown by the server before a .shtml page will be.  This way someone going to domain.com/ will see the .html page while you can still enter from domain.com/index.shtml

Another option would be to password protect the directory...

Um, actually index.shtml is the first thing the server looks for... What I would recommend is adding the following line to an .htaccess file in your root directory:

</font><font face="Courier" size="3">DirectoryIndex comingsoon.html</font><font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">

Then create a comingsoon.html page, and it will display instead of your index.shtml page.

Hope this helps

Opppss, my bad, sorry about that...

The true order is as follows:
index.shtml
index.shtm
index.html
index.htm
index.php3
index.php
index.phtml
index.cgi
index.fquest

index.fquest was added for new accounts as the default page. Before it was index.html, and if you uploaded an index.htm page, you would still see the default page. Adding a .fquest lets us set that at the lowest priority (last in the search order) to prevent all the &quot;why can't I see my page&quot; questions   This way, any of the other index pages will take priority over the default page.
