FQuest Alert: What Happened?

Today's 'episode' was a big one for sure.... Andrew is still down at the NOC with quite a few others clearing up the problems that occurred today.  The entire building (OC-48s, DS3s, T1s etc) went out   The outage caused many other problems for our upstream and their upstream and us etc etc... I'm not going to pretend to even understand what all happened down there... but I'm just posting to let you all know it's been being worked on all night and obviously we have our connectivity back now.

What I can tell you is that the problems were completely beyond our control. We are truly sorry for the issues this has caused many of you.  It's always more difficult when the things that go wrong are things you can do little about

Once Andrew returns, he will be able to better explain the situation.

According to the numerous complaints I got via ICQ, it's been down for the past three hours straight...

Perhaps some sort of off-server page should exist to keep us updated in the event something like this happens again?

WebPartner (web monitoring service) first notified me about a connection problem to my site at 7:11 p.m.

Has the mail been dusted or is it just delayed?

yup,

an off server thing of some kind might be a good idea if possible so that we can keep up as much as possible, that would be a might bit complicated though I imangine.

I was thinking the same thing. That way even if the FQ crew couldn't post, site owners could if they knew what was going on or just wanted to know if others were having problems.

Sounds kind of stupid ... but a Yahoo Club could be set up just for this purpose.

I just feel so isolated when this forum is down and I can't check to see what's happening... heehee (Ok, I've had TOO much allergy medicine)

Oh and here is a big dummy ??

Im guessing I average about 40 emails (most of them nonsense) in that span of time and since I got 3 when the server came back up..... what happens with that?  Does it sit in limbo somewhere or go back to the originator?  I know from the messages I get from taz a day or so after I send email of a failure that it tells me it tried for a certain period of time before it gave up.  Is that typical?

See Im not just a dummy im also posting again to get that "new member" thing off my name since I been around about a year now.  Just goes to show how non particapative I am here.  ))

You guys are great deb and terra, this is sure a rare occurrence.

Sent mails are retried every few hours...  Don't worry, you'll get them....  >:-)
(*LOL*)

PC: Sounds like a good idea, actually...  An FQ club!

Hi, Hearts..Deb mentioned WebPartner here a few weeks (months?) ago and I tried it. It's good. I'm lazy, so I just copied this off their site:

Quote:
WebPartner continuously monitors your e-commerce critical web site pages and upon encountering a problem, initiates analysis procedures and if necessary, sends a notification by email and/or pager.

Weekly reports are available by email which provide you with web site performance data and competitive comparisons. Historical data of your site's performance is maintained for your reference anytime
http://www.webpartner.com/  (it's free!)
