But I don't need another program, because this one is working for me. We have about 110 members, so that's very manageable. I just need to know specifics on how long their logins/passwords can be, what characters can be included, and how to delete a user and password. Has anyone used this service before on FutureQuest?

To delete a user from .htpasswd you will have to hand edit the .htpasswd file. I recommend you use "pico", to do this. If you have not used pico before it is a text editor @ the telnet prompt. Below are instructions for removing a user:

1.     Log into your site via telnet.
2.     Go to the directory your password file is at
3.     Once in the directory type pico PASSWORDFILE (replace with the name of your password file)
Once you are in pico follow the commands and find the user you would like to delete. You will see their name with their encrypted password next to their name.
4. Delete both the name and password on that line. It will look something like “bob:BpqXksG.hwQWc”
5. After you have finished deleting users, Press "Ctrl-x" in pico to save the file. Pico will ask you to "Save modified buffer?" Type in "y". Pico will ask you to write the file. Hit enter. You will now be back at the Unix prompt.

Again as this involves a little effort, if you plan on doing much modifications you might be better off installing a simple and free script to handle this.

To answer your other questions the password and usernames are case sensitive, and I am not aware of a character limit.

If you need additional help let us know.

Password Characters/Length/Delete

I am password protecting a directory on my site where members of our club will be able to login and access information. They will each have their own login and password. I've gone through the AOTA tutorial and everything is working (surprise!), but my questions are: What can the login and password consist of? Upper and lower case? Numbers? Are they case-sensitive? What is the minimum and maximum number of characters? Also, the tutorial tells us how to ADD new users and passwords and change passwords, but it doesn't tell us how to DELETE them. If a member leaves the club, I need to be able to delete his/her login and password.

If you have a lot of members you might look into a program to handle this. You will find a lot of them at: http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Program...rd_Protection/
