Setting up downloadable files

How do I go about setting up zip files for people to download from a page on my site?  I want them to be able to click on file and it will download for them to an a drive or c drive or whatever.....
Can you give specific instruction or point me to a place on the web that would explain it in simple terminology.
Or is there simple HTML coding that I can use?

Thanks

The easiest thing would be too upload the zip to a directory then put a link to it like

http://www.domain.com/file.zip
