anyone using "everyone.net"?

http://www.everyone.net
Does anyone use this service for offering free web-based email accounts on their site?

I'm halfway thru the setup process and am a little nervous. I requested that FQ make the necessary dns changes, which I suspect has been done because I'm not getting test messages sent to the account. But when I returned to everyone.net to complete the setup I get: "Sorry, Everyone.net Inc.’s Site Control Center is currently unavailable."

This does not bode well.

I went and had a look at it last month - as well as some of the competition.  In the end, none of them would've been suitable for what I wanted - POP access.  So for me, I get to figure out how to implement my own mail engine.

When I did visit Everyone.net, though, it was horribly slow, even taking into consideration the fact that I am in Thailand.  I'm not surprised that sometimes the setup/config area goes down - the same happens with Reporting.net.  IMHO, that's inexcusable - for companies providing such large-scale services (including Ebay) it is a must that they have backup systems and networking which will allow continued operation.

Needless to say, I won't be using Everyone.net anytime soon - but I certainly hope they resolve their problems quick so that you can continue to do what you set out to do.

Thanks, Ted. Yes, my few hours with everyone.net proved disastrous and I'm cancelling the whole deal.

Setup was confusing, everything was real slow, (as you say), and my one test account hasn't recieved mail sent to it, yet. And, so far, there's been no support.

I'm looking into Bigmailbox.com. I dunno, but it seems to me if FQ setup a service like this for its members it could be very popular and profitable. Couldn't QuestMail be adapted somehow?

I like the idea of offering free web-based email accounts as a way to keep people coming back to the site frequently.

If ever we decide that hosting isn't what we should be doing... we'll consider the Free Email avenue   Putting together something like BigMailBox.com would take multiple servers solely dedicated to email.  It's not something we could just add to our existing setups...  Would be fun but ummm expensive

Deb
p.s. From this side of the fence -- BigMailBox.com is doing a much job then Everyone.net as far as setup etc goes...

I must admit my suggestion was totally selfish. I want FutureQuest to offer everything I need because no one else comes close to your fantastic service! I mean it.

Just as soon as TeRRa figures out HTCPCP/1.0 and standardizes all of the domains hosted by FutureQuest (I'm hoping for this *very soon*) with this protocol... then I'll go ahead and consider the free email servers.

I only read a paragraph of that memo - this is about drinkable coffee? a little strange to need a way to control coffee over the net, if you ask me.

Hi Jameson,

I'm desperate for the HTCPCP protocol to be completely ratified...  Cisco is also working on updating their routers for external 'FireWire' plugins with 'Hot-Swap' capability...

For the masses out their that are locked in a 'Coding Closet' daily, it is our only touch to the outside world that feeds our nector of existance...

FutureQuest, among many others, are helping out on liquifying this protocol and pushing for the larger equipment vendors (Cisco/Bay Networks/SMC/etc) to start offering this long overdue protocol in their products...
