[FQuest Announce] Ezmlm-idx upgrade

When: Thursday July 9th, 2009
Window: 0:01AM to 2:00AM EDT
Duration: 15 minutes
Who: Users of ezmlm-idx mailing lists

As previously mentioned, we are excited to announce that we will be upgrading ezmlm-idx to the latest version. Among other improvements, the new version supports full customization of all administrative subject lines. The CNC will also be upgraded to support the new version, but the functionality and appearance remains the same.

As there are some minor incompatibilities between the existing and new versions of ezmlm-idx, it will be necessary to disable mailing lists temporarily while the upgrade is in progress. The CNC ezmlm-idx section will also be disabled to prevent corruption of the control files. All other mail functions (incoming and outgoing) will continue to operate normally during the upgrade.

To use different subject lines for the subscribe and unsubscribe messages, create a file named "text/messages" in the list directory, and to it add the following lines:

Code:
SUB_USR_SUBSCRIBE:confirm subscribe to <#L#>@<#H#>
SUB_USR_UNSUBSCRIBE:confirm unsubscribe from <#L#>@<#H#>
SUB_WELCOME:WELCOME to <#L#>@<#H#>
All of the text following the colon may be changed as desired. A full list of subject line messages will be forthcoming in a new Knowledge Base article.

Most, if not all, customized control files will continue to function normally after the upgrade. We will not be rebuilding the lists or the control files and will not wipe out customizations. There is one small change required to the "editor" file, as the usage of ezmlm-issubn (and others) has changed, but the fix for this will be made non-destructively.

I have started the upgrades. The CNC ezmlm-idx page will remain unavailable until all servers have been upgraded.

Re: [FQuest Announce] Ezmlm-idx upgrade

Hi Bruce,

I just sent a note to service desk and then said uh oh I should have come here first to see if anyone else is having this problem - but I don't and thought I should alert everyone.

My custom settings for all of my mailing lists did NOT remain in tact. AND they won't "stick"

Particularly the biggest problem is that when I click on NO for "Unsubscribe requires confirmation" it ignores me after I tell it to update and it refers back to YES for "Unsubscribe requires confirmation"

I am sure you all would want to know so I thought I should post here as well.

Judy

It turns out this was a display issue -- the settings were saved properly, both initially and when editing the list properties. However, some of the settings were not being displayed properly. These bugs (and a couple other minor ones) have now been fixed.

We have just added support for editing text files and subject lines into the CNC. Please check out the announcement thread for more details and discussion.
