Outlook Express - Outgoing Email Not Working

I am trying to help a friend who has FutureQuest as a host for a website. She has an email account through futurequest that is resolving to her registered domain.

Incoming Mail is set to pop@herdomain.com and outgoing is set to mail.herdomain.com. She can recieve email but not send.

I telneted to mail@herdomain.com and tried to authenticate but it did not take her email and password. When she is sending out, does she need to use her main account's username and password? (In other words, the account info setup to manager her website).

Thanks for the info.

Re: Outlook Express - Outgoing Email Not Working

The most common reason for being unable to send mail is because the ISP in question is blocking Port 25. This is explained in detail in the following Knowledgebase article:
http://service.futurequest.net/index...details&_i=165

However, a quick test and workaround is to set the Outbound SMTP port to either 1025 or 587, as FutureQuest provides listening SMTP servers on these 2 alternative ports to provide a workaround for this problem.

Yes, it is necessary to authenticate to send outbound mail, which is also covered in the KB article linked above.
