553 Error

I've been getting intermittent 553 errors with Questmail in last two days, no changes to mail client and it being intermittent makes me wonder.

I should check the broadband and network but wondering if I'm the only one.

We may need some more information and clarification -- I'm confused about whether you're seeing the errors when actually using QuestMail (FutureQuest's web-based email) or when using your own email client/software (as you say "no changes to mail client"). Is it happening when trying to send to a specific address?

Usually 553 errors are a result of one of two things:

Re: 553 Error

These are being sent through Outlook. Differing Emails of people I do regular business with and like I said, it is intermittent, started yesterday around 8:00pm.

Re: 553 Error

Since you're sending via your own email client (Outlook), you are most likely experiencing the errors due to the second reason listed at the link I provided:
http://service.FutureQuest.net/kb162

Quote:
2. You are attempting to relay email through this server and have not authenticated

Most likely you are seeing this message because you have not authenticated. To use this server as a relay (to send email to an outside address using your domain name), you must authenticate first.

You can do this in one of two ways:

1. SMTP Authentication - SMTP AUTH is a method for verifying a user's login and password before allowing mail to be sent to other mail servers on the Internet. Your email client is required to login before sending mail. This method allows you to simply enter your username and password (the same ones you use for POP or IMAP) in the SMTP settings in your email program.

2. POP Before Send - This method allows you to simply check your email before sending. Once you have checked your email, you are allowed to relay for the next 15 minutes from your current IP address without further authentication.
Although dated, the following may help in setting up SMTP Auth in Outlook:

Re: 553 Error

Had it setup already. Sorry. Like I said, it is the intermittent thing making me think my network is not responding in time frame allotted

Re: 553 Error

You specifically have SMTP Auth set? It should be a setting that says something like "My server requires authentication" under the outgoing server settings.

You'll want to confirm that as without that set, you'll need to rely on the alternative method of authenticating which is POP before Send, which can mean receiving that error intermittently if you have not POPped (checked for email) in the previous 15 minutes before sending.
