I need ftp help...

I'm trying to use kompozer , and I think that I may have typed in the wrong info for the publishing server (publishing address). Can anyone tell me exactly how I'm supposed to have that. I am using a temporary ftp at this time. I keep getting a server error. I have already pulled all my hair out...

Re: I need ftp help...

There are some pretty good tutorials on using Kompozer here:
http://www.thesitewizard.com/topics/kompozer.shtml

For publishing the site to the server, the tutorial on this page
http://www.thesitewizard.com/getting...torial-1.shtml

it seems you should put
ftp://ftp.example.com/www

where you replace "example.com" with your actual domain name.

Ah, for temporary FTP you should use the IP address number from your Activation Letter, something like

ftp://1.2.3.4/www

But replace 1.2.3.4 with the actual IP address from your Activation Letter.

I don't use Kompozer, and I'm not 100% sure if the /www part is correct, so if you continue to experience issues, let us know.

Re: I need ftp help...

You would need the following settings...

Under the Settings Tab:

HTTP address: http://example.com

Publishing Server:
ftp://ftp.example.com or if using IP address then ftp://69.5.X.XX

Username and Password as contained in your Activation Letter Section 3)

Under the Publish Tab:

Site subdirectory for this page:
www/

(Remember to replace example.com with your actual domain name and if using IP address replace 69.5.X.XX with the IP address assigned to your domain, also contained in your Activation letter section 3)

Re: I need ftp help...

would you happen to know if I need a static ip address instead of a dynamic? Forgive me if this is an understood notion...I think it might be my problem though from what i'm gathering through other research?

Re: I need ftp help...

If you are referring to your Gateway IP address, that you connect from, then it should not matter whether it is Static or Dynamic.

If you continue to have problems it probably would be best to send an email to the Service Desk, Service@FutureQuest.net, with as many details as possible including the exact error you are seeing...

Re: I need ftp help...

I see that you have uploaded a file named index.html to your account. That will serve as your "home page", meaning it will be shown when people visit your site just using your domain name. However, the file isn't in the correct location to be able to be accessed from the web.

You'll want to put it in the www directory in order for it to work as expected.

This is an easy process using your CNC (your web-based control panel). Are you familiar with your CNC yet? (The Activation Letter contains access information for it.)

The instructions are easier to provide when we can include account-specific details. If you're unsure of how to move the file(s) using your CNC, please write in to the Service Desk (Service@FutureQuest.net) and we can provide detailed step-by-step instructions to you.

(You can also try specifying www/ for the "Site subdirectory for this page" located under the Publish Tab in KompoZer as suggested by Bob and that should work to upload files to the correct location, I believe.)

It looks like you've made the name server changes correctly and propagation appears to be complete. You should be able to use your domain name now.
