Automated Links Page

I am not knowledgable about this so I will describe it as best I can?

I am looking for a free automated links-page script that will allow visitors to my site to add a hyperlink link to a links page in my site. I want the ability to either approve or disaprove of the link before the link is actually added, though.

To shorten my search, would someone please suggest a free script that would have these features?

Hi Alex,
The script you want is at
www.gossamer-threads.com
It's awesome. Version 2 is in beta now and will add many new features so you may want to wait a few weeks (like I am. I had version 1 running at my old site and it worked great. Figured I might as well wait for the new one for FutureQuest. Oh, and I think the author is named Alex!)

The script Benson mentions is, in my opinion, the best one on the net right now. I've installed it on dhearts.org/community/ and it works like a charm!

But it's also important to note that it is only free for not-for-profit, personal, or academic use... $150 for any other use. (that's why it's not on aota.net yet, maybe some day though)

For anyone looking -- there is also a thread suggestion some other free options at http://www.aota.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000032.html

That should get you started

I use Links for one of my sites and I intend to use it for a whole series of sites I've got in the works.

Links 2.0 looks to be a much better version than 1.0 - faster and better and more feature complete. The author was inspired by www.cgi-resources.com when he wrote it

There's also a program called indexfinger http://www.indexfinger.com but I don't get a warm and fuzzy feeling from the programmer of that script. Something feels different with that guy. Plus, you can try the full version of Links for free and pay only if you use it commercially, after you've got it all set up. Indexfinger costs you money before you even get a full version.

Also, Links can be set up to use an SQL database for speedy searching on LARGE indexes. The pages are static, built by the Links script when you want it to, rather than building each page every time it's accessed, so that reduces server load considerably.

I like it
