AOL is compressing my graphics and I don't like it.

AOL takes my beautiful web graphics and compresses them even further and they become distorted, as well as displaying at the wrong size. This sucks!!! So is there any line(s) of code I can include in my pages that tells AOL to leave my graphics alone? Please lemme know. thanx.

Go to http://webmaster.info.aol.com/ and click on "Graphic Info". Once there, clicking on "AOL Compression" will tell you that you're basically out of luck... unless, of course, you do something at least a little weaselesque: make all your gifs animated gifs, and it won't compress them.

If your jpegs over 1K are getting compressed, you're SOL, except maybe if you can generate "Progressive 3-pass" jpegs, which apparently the AOL software can't currently deal with (see their FAQ page for the reference).

Most annoyingly, AOL's page says "users can change this setting, but most choose to use compression" Er... no, most have no idea that such a thing exists, there's no real "choice" going on for most of it. Of course, "No real choice" is appropriate for election day...

Actually it is a setting on the browser.  But the trouble is that is by default set to "compress" and most don't know or bother to change it unless instructed to do so perhaps.
