taxes: domain names as small business expense - maximums?

A .com domain name is currently up for auction and the price is getting to be very high for my blood, but I'm wondering about what guidelines might exist for claiming domain name purchase from auction as a business expense?

If you're just speculating on its future value or plan on someday using it that's a business. Even if you never actually use it because it turned out to be a bad business decision, it's still business.
