My daughter wants to put a moffats video on her web page. Do you ftp that in ascii or binary? Do these type of files take up a lot of space in my domain?

Yes, you would upload them via FTP in binary mode

ASCII is reserved for txt type documents (html and cgi code etc)

p.s. The space they take up all depends on the size of the file itself.  The bandwidth just depends on how often the file is downloaded...
