Need to look up IP address

I have a client who I think let their domain name expire. I usually handle updates to their website (which I think is fine) but I can't verify it because I don't know what the current IP address is. I believe it may have been one of the old ones affected by the number change earlier this year.

The old IP is: 216.32.68.174

With todays new and improved whois information it is hard to determine if a domain is expired just by by viewing the "expiration" date however in this case it does appear that the domain has expired...

The reason why this shows an Expiration Date of 2005 is better explained by the Disclaimer now carried on the InterNic whois pages...

"NOTICE: The expiration date displayed in this record is the date the registrar's sponsorship of the domain name registration in the registry is currently set to expire. This date does not necessarily reflect the expiration date of the domain name registrant's agreement with the sponsoring registrar. Users may consult the sponsoring registrar's Whois database to view the registrar's reported date of expiration for this registration."

However it is also my experience that not all Registrars show the real expiration date in their whois either...

The key is "Status: REGISTRAR-HOLD" and the "Updated Date" as that is usually when the DNS entries for the domain was pulled...

Ok, enough <ranting>

You can always determine the IP address for a Domain by digging the Name Server associated with the domain...

For further clarification, the IP 216.32.68.174 has never been a FutureQuest IP address and the "Old" IP assigned to this domain was 63.151.115.28 prior to the recent IP renumbering.

Another trick to get the expiration status at Network Solutions: go there and try to renew it. If it says "Expired" in red and asks for $34.99 with a date range, it probably has really expired. If it just asks you for $34.99, it has probably not expired. How's that for cloudy advice!
