There is someone else that uses aol also having problems in this area.

They are seeing the temp forums we had up during the "great sprint outage of Jan99".

The thing is --- those forums do not exist... there is 'technically' no way they could be seeing them. The only thing we can think of is that there local dial-ups have cached it somehow and aren't releasing it:/

Only suggestion we can offer is calling the local dial-up and asking them to check it out.... what they are seeing doesn't exist -- it's been taken off the server:/

I know that, you know that, but the aliens causing the time warp don't know that

When DeanB did a tracert on aota he got 209.192.41.107 which is what I get doing the same on www.futurequest.org. For me, aota gets 205.244.185.207. Wierd. I tried to get to the org forums and they are in fact gone. I told him to Shift+Reload, and he was offended that I didn't think he tried that first hehe

I suggested it's some sort of proxy thing caching it, but being that these forums are dynamic, and I believe they output a no-cache header, it shouldn't be that persistant.

Update - now that I think about it, aota shouldn't have ever had that IP, right? Aota hasn't moved at all, has it? It was never part of the org domain at all! This is odd...

Can he get to the forums via IP?
http://205.244.185.207/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi

They wont really work well that way since they are hardcoded by domain name.. but can he?

I'm back !! I have no idea what was going on earlier. Yes Deb I could get to these forums using http://205.244.185.207/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi but of course all the links inside the UBB point to aota.net. There were at one point three of us 'lost in space' Armand (Joe) was one but I can't remember the other person. I kept running tracert aota.net all afternoon then suddenly it switched from 209.192.41.107 to 205.244.185.207. Ah ha I thought ! However, www.aota.net just met with a 'server not responding' in any browser. This lasted for about 3hrs until the forums suddenly re-appeared again
Ponder on this Deb: If the forums didn't actually exist how were both myself Joe and the other individual able to post to this forum ?? We were reading each others messages all afternoon. Which mirror galaxy are those messages hiding in ? Ooooooooo (cue twilight zone music)

Can I call Scully....pleeeeeeease

Dean.

Dean, you are busted... What are you doing hacking my servers... That is immediate grounds for termination...

I don't have any servers in the Twilight Zone, but I do have one in Purgatory... Your old stomping grounds perhaps???

Dean.

Lost in space is rignt. (In SE Kansas no less).
Yes! I'm back too Dean. Knew I was seeing the temp forums but still don't know why.
Mysterious wasn't it - but entertaining.
Didn't even know I was in the Twilight Zone.
Do we get a book deal or a movie about us now?
Well gotta go,
Will and Penny are waiting for me back at the Jupiter II.
Signed,
The other 'outcast'

HEY! I just got this in an e-mail:
Hello, we understand that you are a user of FutureQuest hosting, are you not? We also noticed you are an avid poster to the CNC Community Forums.
We, at the National Enquirer, need your help in contacting the long lost poster, reffered to as the " other outcast", from the result of the "mysterious twilight affect.

We want to buy exclusive publishing rights to this eerie phenomenom. I am talking 6 figure digits here.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Mr. Pope
National Enquirer, Editor in Cheif

PS: If you know anything, anything at all, please call me at (555) 555-5555

I'm back too... yeah I don't get how Dean and I could post and read each others messages. Weird... Do I assume that by proxy caching you mean something like cache being used on AOL server or something??? I know it wasn't my caches but if that's what you meant, then I am sorry for the grief.

May not be around here much too long anyways, seeing how I got fired tonight and may not have money to waste on cyberspace anymore. Sorry just brooding.
