Submission pages

Hi everyone, ok two things. To get the info that people submit from our contact page to be sent to an email im guessing i need frontpage server extentsions? Do i need to install those on my machine or the web server? Also for creating something that is more pleasing to the eye after someone submits can i just create a new page and then link it off the submit button???

Im publishing through FP so i think i have the server extensions installed. WHere do i configure it i guess is what im asking.

Not necessarily. Most people would use a cgi script of some type for that. If you are hosting your web site with FutureQuest, then you could use our pre-installed Mail Form Script.

There are many other mail form type of scripts, such as the NMS mail script, etc...
If you wish to search for alternative scripts, let us know and maybe we can make some suggestions on where to search.

I'm not really familiar with how FrontPage extensions work, never having used FrontPage or its extensions. Perhaps you need to install something on your local computer. I'm not sure. (I didn't think so, but then I really don't know.) However, the web server that you are using must support FrontPage extensions or else they will not work. If you are hosting with FutureQuest, then FutureQuest does not support FP extensions, so you will need to use a script instead.

Not sure whatyou mean here? If you're talking about the page someone sees after they have submitted the form, most scripts provide a configurable "Thank You" page.

yea im sorry i didnt realize this was a host or whatever. I just did a search for frontpage and this was one of the sites that came up. I'm open to trying anything to get this to work. I've been getting fp extension errors on the webservers eventlog saying message connot resolve host name. I also just tried that script from the link above and i just get a page cannot be displayed.

have you just bought the domain name or just transferred it to a new host? Sounds like a classic case of DNS propagation to me, which if it is, will only get worse the more times you try it. In either case, not checking your site for at least 24 hours, will usually resolve the situation, but I have seen some ISP's cache domains for up to 10 days.

If you truely want and need a host that offers working FP extensions, PM me and I will give a couple of recommendations. Having worked with both windows servers/w FP extensions and linux servers, I can honestly say it's worth your time to learn scripting on the linux variety in use here at FutureQuest.
