an old topic: best free forum invision vs. phpbb

It looks like Invision is swinging a bit more into the "pay" arena from it's free forum beginnings, now calling the free version an "unlimited free trial".

I'm thinking of setting up a site for a friend that needs a 'free forum' (though I might still talk them into spending the $ for vBulletin which is my own preference since I've had the most experience with it and am excited with the vBulletin 3 beta 5 test I just installed locally) But if not, which is better at the moment: phpbb or Invision?

Invision looks really great aesthetically right now, whereas phpbb has an upcoming major release it seems (like vBulletin as well). But as I said I'm wondering what Invision's future will hold as a free alternative... and also I haven't had any experience with Invision so I'm wondering about it's stability over time.
