Runaround

How about something like "Thanks you for your suggestion. We're sorry, but there is currently no way to access Hotmail with IE's high security setting." If I'm sending this to the wrong people, don't people know how to forward email? Here is the email I sent to passport_privacy@css.one.microsoft.com followed by the reply, then the reply to the same message sent through the form at http://register.passport.com/contactus.srf

I set Internet Explorer's privacy to high, which "Blocks cookies that do
not have a compact privacy policy" and "Blocks cookies that use
personally identifiable information without your explicit consent." I
wasn't able to access my Hotmail account with that setting. I suggest
that you add a compact privacy policy and/or ask for the necessary
consent so a high setting will work.

Even worse, I used the override feature to allow all cookies from
Hotmail, but it didn't work. If it is possible to override cookie
handling in Internet Explorer 6 so I can access my Hotmail account with
a high security setting, please tell me what address(es) to add to the
"per site privacy actions."

Thanks.

Hello :
Thank you for your message to Microsoft .NET Passport Privacy.

Unfortunately we are unable to assist you with your report as it does not specifically relate to the issues addressed in the .NET Passport Privacy Statement (http://www.passport.com/Consumer/PrivacyPolicy.asp?).

When a Hotmail account is opened it is automatically registered as a .NET Passport account, which allows you to use your Hotmail address and password to access other .NET Passport participating sites and services. It is not possible to have a Hotmail account that is not registered as a .NET Passport account, nor can the .NET Passport registered to a Hotmail account be closed, deleted, or disabled while the Hotmail account itself remains open.

We cannot help you with support or abuse issues related to Hotmail email accounts at this alias, questions and issues related to these accounts need to be sent directly the appropriate team provided by Hotmail.

Hotmail Support can be contacted directly via the eform at: http://lw12fd.law12.hotmail.msn.com/...pport?_lang=EN

If you need to reset your Hotmail account password, or report an abusive issue, you will find the contact information necessary at: http://www.msn.com/contactus.ashx

If you need support related help with the .NET Passport account registered to your Hotmail email address you will need to contact .NET Passport Support directly via the eform at: http://register.passport.com/contactus.srf

Hello Barry,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft .NET Passport.

We apologize for the delay in answering your service request.

Barry, I understand that you are experiencing difficulty in accessing your Hotmail account. I realize that such issues can be frustrating and look forward to providing you with assistance today.

However, I am sorry, but we cannot investigate the account that you wrote about without the Hotmail sign-in name. Please resend the original question to us (with the error message you are getting), along with this information.

Your sign-in name is the first part of your Hotmail address (the part preceding the "@" symbol). If you have forgotten your sign-in name, try contacting someone to whom you have sent an e-mail message to see if he or she knows your Hotmail address.

Unfortunately, you cannot change the sign-in name on your current account. If you cannot obtain your Hotmail sign-in name, you must create a new one by opening a new account.

Barry, I hope that you will get back to us with the required information, so that we could resolve your issue. However, if you still have any queries regarding your Hotmail account, please feel free to email us again. We'll be glad to assist you.

I hope you have a great day.

Is everyone like this? It looks like I'm going to be forced to write a letter to a few exectuives at Hotmail and Yahoo!, and now I have more to complain about than cookies.

-----------------------------

My email was a complaint about your privacy policy. If you can't forward my message properly and you can't tell me specifically who to contact regarding my complaint, I don't see how you expect me to know.

Subject: General Privacy Feedback

Type your feedback here:
I was going to join a Yahoo! list, but
I have my Internet Explorer privacy
set to Medium High, which blocks third
party cookies that do not have a
compact privacy statement and third
party cookies that use personally
identifiable information without my
explicit consent.

I suggest you make the necessary
changes to allow people with my
setting to access Yahoo! Lists.
