Can't connect to SMTP server...

Hi,

I recently moved and had to rebuild my network on a dialup (woohoo.).
Anyways, I have the majority of it put back together and it seems that I can do everything but send email through my appointed SMTP server at FQ.
I have checked email many times but when I try to connect to send, it times out. My firewall is _wide_ open and I can telnet to various places on the internet and even to Sonic where my domain is hosted. However, if I attempt to telnet to mail.my.domain 25 I never receive a response from the remote server.
Any hints would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich.

Since you have changed to dialup (and/or changed ISPs), prehaps your current connection is blocking Port 25, which is quite common with some ISPs. To check you can follow this tutorial:
http://www.aota.net/Troubleshooting/port25.php4

If indeed, it turns out that Port 25 is blocked, you could try configuring your mail client to use Port 1025 for SMTP instead, as the FutureQuest mail servers have been set up to listen on both Ports 25 and 1025.

Hope this helps,

D'oh! I knew this, but it's been so long.

Hi,

They are indeed blocking port 25. A simple telnet to 1025 indicates so. I thought it seemed awfully firewally.

I think I remember dealing with this a while ago, now that you mentioned that. For what it's worth (really for the sake of forum searches), the ISP is Earthlink.
Ah, spammers touch us in so many ways. I wish I just return the favor to them, (with an iron pipe).

Thanks Sheila,
Rich.
