Changing the "from" and "subject" text of form e-mails from my website...

Okay, let's try this.

Here's my website. Actually, just the temp page I have up:

http://www.lambeausouth.com

I have a form for people to signup for updates. Very simple. However, despite my added input commands (look at the source code), I still get the following when I open up my Outlook Express:

Under from I get: dai-tx55-197rasserver.net.....

Under subject I get: output from http://www.lambeausouth.com......

Since I have defined both from and subject as hidden input commands, why do they still come up like this?

Thanks,

William

The INPUT tags for Subject and From have an extra forward slash "/" at the end.

Mystery solved.

Not so fast.....

I originally uploaded the index page to my server without the slashes and got the same result.....

I'm using Molly E Holzshlag's Using XHTML as my reference. She includes the closing tags...

Here's what I am getting in my e-mail.....

With or without the slash (which is probably restricted to XHTML), I still can't change it. This wouldn't be so bothersome if I didn't plan on having multiple forms on my website. I have to open each e-mail to find what the reply is for!

Thanks for the first response, but I still think I'm missing something!

I'm not an HTML (or XHTML) guru, but my copy of O'Reilly's HTML & XHTML: The Definitive Guide (4th Edition) suggests a couple things:

If you're really trying to use XHTML, you've got some other problems.

First of all, you're missing the DTD declaration stuff at the top of the page. As it is now, browsers will not know to interpret your page as XHTML.

Secondly, you're not being consistent. Most of your other INPUT tags did not have closing tags. So pick one way or the other.

When viewing your source code, it appears you're getting the form processing script from a site other than lambeausouth.com. That practice deviates from anti-spam best practices outlined in the FormMail ReadMe file. Also, FQ requests that you install your form mailer script in a sub-directory of cgi-bin, to make it less accessible to spammers.

I wonder if the script on the server you access is a little different from the standard FormMail script. Maybe that could explain its "stubborness"...
