file names and google
Is there any advantage to using any of the following page names as far as being listed in Google?
1.) /boat_design_section33.html
2.) /boat-design-section33.html
3.) /boatdesign_section33.html
4.) /33.html
5.) /boat_design/section33.html

No way of knowing for sure, but my first instinct would be to go for:
/boat_design/section33.html
Assuming they ignore underscores and dashes, then it shouldn't matter which you use. I prefer underscores for some reason, but if you're giving out the URL over the phone very often, it's easier to use a dash.
The above just looks cleaner to me, and removing the "section" to it's own directory makes the important words (boat and design) the only words in that directory, so they would have a higher relevancy score than the other formats.

Thanks Jim,
I think that I've read that the more directories down from root a page is though, the less page weight it is given by Google... I'm not sure if there is a threshold for when this comes into play though.

I think Google pays more attention to the titles of your pages than the filenames. Why I think this, I have no idea--maybe I read it somewhere.
Google is a mystery, rapped inside an enigma (or something like that) to paraphrase Churchill.

One month is no time at all when submitting pages to Google, or any other search engine for that matter. You should wait another month or so, and then you might try submitting it again - just don't do it too often, or your site might not get listed. Also, try exchanging links with some related site that's already in Google. That way, when Google indexes that site, it will jump to yours.

Thanks!
I wasn't sure if it was working or not. Maybe I'll submit once more and try to get some high traffice pages to link to mine. Not sure who would though? Have to investigate somewhat.
Thanks!

I believe you just "submitted" yourself.
My own so-called web site has been living in quiet obscurity for a couple of years now -- there's nothing there to advertise! -- but as soon as I added it to my profile here in the forums, within two months it was in Google. And I am now one of the world's top Randall Blanks, for whatever that's worth.
When I knock this Executive Vice President dude out of the top spot, I will become King of all Randall Blanks.

Also check your logs for hits from the googlebot spider. That way, if you know you are getting spidered, but still aren't getting indexed, then there is something on your site that Google doesn't like.
Also, is your 'robots.txt' file in order? FQ's default setting is just fine, but if you've changed it in any way and forgot to change it back, it could be turning the spider away.
Good luck. I've found Google to be quite frustrating. And I've also learned that you should spread your site as far as you can. We were #5 last month. After the latest dance, we dropped down 200 pages or so. Rumor is their algorithm was a bit off, yet here we sit with almost no Google hits, but traffic building from Yahoo, link exchanges and ppc.
