New CGI problems on DEEDEE and NINE?

I have a CGI problem that I've just noticed. I'm getting a DNS error (Cannot find server) when I try to access an administration program which calls a text file and allows me to edit the program database. Odd thing is, I'm having the same problem with another copy of the same CGI program on another URL. They are completly separate of each other and both worked great last week.

The principal function (search) of the scripts is working fine, just no admin access when the correct password is entered. Now, when the wrong password is entered, they function correctly and redirect as they should.

I have checked everything, reloaded the scripts, hours now... still no joy.

Is it possible that the recent upgrades have something to do with this?

Thanks,
Carlton

The chance of the kernel upgrade causing this would be remote, but could be possible...

However you have left me without any details of:
1) where this script is
2) how to properly call it
3) detailed steps of how to reproduce the issue

Without that, I can go no further...

Expand on this a bit... Your statement about same script, running on two different servers still means it is _same_ script with same settings...

1) Is the DNS error a browser based one (like IE infamous DNS brain damage), or is the script throwing the error?
2) Is the same domain being used in both scripts?
3) What is the domain name that is having a DNS lookup failure on?
4) Do you do other DNS lookups and do they succeed?
5) If yes to #4, do you realize that all DNS lookups go through the same exact DNS resolver mechanism?
6) What have you done to isolate the DNS error, beyond simply uploading the script and hoping it just works?

I don't post administration program access info in forums. I assumed that if the problem needed to be address by FQ, I would e-mail that information. If there was no probability that the upgrades caused this, then I would have continued to work on it myself.

No mind reading was expected and I never solicit help with a problem at the "uploading the script and hoping it just works" point in the process.

However, now BOTH scripts are now working and I've not done anything since before starting this thread.

You find something?

Thanks,
Carlton

Nope, haven't touched a thing today... Everything has been smooth as silk...

You would be amazed at the volume of email we receive that asks us questions, yet provide little to no information to go on... I would rather have details upfront, then to have to ask for them and wait for it to arrive...

With the upgrades taking place, things are still on condition yellow, which means we are on alert for any anomalies and I don't like to let things linger when we are on vigil...

So don't take anything personally, it is more a request to anyone reading this thread to remember to provide sane details to the problem they are reporting... The worst ones are, and I kid you not: "It's broke, can you please fix it asap!" (period)

Thanks again, Terra.

I understand about needing all the details.

Odd (and wonderful) that both of them are now fine, huh?

FYI:
The scripts are identical but one is at motorcyclecity.net and the other is at cyclesearch.net. They are search scripts, one for motorcyclecity.com and the other is cyclesearch.net. You remember CycleSearch don't you? "20 GIGS and outta' control!"?

Cheers,
CS

LOL, how could I forget...

I've been working with the servers extending the inevitable... It's a difficult domain, that is for sure, but for now it is keeping it's head above water...

As you already know, we do have your go ahead for a course of action if it becomes simply too much... However I won't take that action until absolutely necessary as being on the Platinum plan does have it's unspoken benefits...
