Interpreting TRACERT

Hi,

I still don't know how to exactly interpret the numbers given by tracert (Windows 95 implementation).

Some line might read like this:
Quote:
10   146 ms   145 ms   145 ms  sl-bb21-rly-12-0.sprintlink.net [144.232.9.242]
What exactly does "145ms" mean. Is this the time, an IP packet needs from my PC to this 144.232.9.242 or is it the total round-trip-time (my pc to 144.232.9.242 back to me).

Greetings from Bonn, Germany

a) the first number on this line is the hop number, ie it is telling you how many routers you have gone thru

b) the three numbers next in sequence are the "ping" times to each router that tracert has done .... note three pings are done and each of the response times are noted (in milliseconds) (roundtrip time)

c) finally the ip address and (maybe) the domain name of the router

Thanks for that info. I'm working on a network speed problem and I hoped that the "times" given were to be doubled for a total roundtrip.
