NSI joins the fray

Anyone else get one of these emails?

Quote:
You've registered your .COM address, but have you registered the matching .NET and .ORG addresses?

Your .COM Web address is your online identity. It represents
who you are and what you stand for to all the people that
visit your Web site. And net savvy opportunists know that
the easiest way to mislead your visitors is to register the
.NET or .ORG versions of your .COM name.

For a limited time only, you can get a matching .NET and .ORG address for your .COM address from Network Solutions for only $10 each. That's a savings of over 70% off the regular price!

This offer is only available through this special e-mail
offer, so protect your online identity today!...
Yes, I admit, I was one of those misguided fools who registered a domain more than a year ago and still has the spectre of InterNIC hanging over me like a dark rain cloud...

Interesting.

A month or so ago register.com offered customers a "transfer registrar" deal for $10.00 per domain name.

A great move to make a move.

Got one.  Ditched it immediately because they are too stupid to see that I already HAVE my extra TLD's . . .

I got the same thing... would never have expected that from NSI.

They really try selling you people on the "YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOUR NAME WORLD WIDE!" junk. Even at $10 bucks a pop, I wouldn't touch NSI with a 10-foot pole.

Hi Dan,

Did you use InterNIC to mean NetSol? You may be able to avoid NetSol but not InterNIC

InterNIC belongs to the U.S. Department of Commerce. NetSol has nothing to do with it other than the fact that they host the site.

NetSol was even made to completely hand over the domain and the Domain Policy List owned by NetSol moved from lists.internic.net to lists.netsol.com

Anil Kumar

Didn't Network Solutions evolve (or de-evolve?) from InterNIC around the time of the registrar deregulation?  At the time of the apparent name change, internic.net forwarded to networksolutions.com, then eventually became its own site.

Hi Dan,

Well, actually NetSol along with some other companies and the US Department of Commerce was involved in the formation of InterNIC. Because NetSol was the only registrar every one (probably including NetSol) used InterNIC to mean NetSol.
