transferring someone elses domain to FQ

I've talked to several people lately who have web sites that were set up by others who did a lousy job and then disappeared. I'm offering to take over as webmaster and the first thing I would do is transfer the site to FQ. How would I go about changing the dns info? Is this something FQ can handle for me? What info would be needed to make the change? Presumably, proof of ownership of the domain name would have to be provided somehow.

For this you'll just need to follow the directions at http://Register.FutureQuest.net to perform domain transfers.

If they were registered at NetworkSolutions (odds are if they've been around more than a few months they were) visit http://Register.FutureQuest.net/netsol/index.php for detailed instructions.... The domain name owners will need to approve the transfers...

Every day I get more frustrated with Network Solution...

I have been trying to transfer 2 domain names for two different clients for about 2 weeks now.  I followed their procedure an email was automatically sent to the administrative contact for each of the domains.  In accordance with NSI's archaic system, they forwarded the email message back to hostmaster@networksolutions.com.  But the update was never made.  I emailed them 2 days ago and got no response.  I called NSI's toll-free number and wait on hold for a while only to be told that I need to call a different (toll) number to speak with someone in a different division of the company.  Apparently the 800 number is only for competative aspects of their business (domain name registration and other Internet services) and not for support of the database of which they still hold a monopoly.  Then when I call the toll number I get a message saying they are busy, call back another time - they can't even put me on hold and let me wait for a live person.

If anyone had any question whether the public has been hurt (and continues to be hurt) from the monopolistic components of Network Solutions, that question can be easily answered by just looking at the difference in tech support between the two parts of the company.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Thousands would agree.

One thing I have noticed -- IF everything was done correctly and IF Netsol isn't having erroneous problems of their own -- is that the domain is under CRYPT-PW protection.  If it was done under CRYPT-PW and you do not use that password to request the transfer, it will fail every time w/o reason for the fail...

ok this is when I usually ask if you diddnt know the direct number that got you through directly to a person usually on the first ring "Priority 800 Number", but judging by your wait you diddnt know it. I use it all the time and I have never waited more than a few seconds.

Oh well as you are propably getting mad you diddnt know it I  must tell you I am just kidding, and agree that it sucks to wait on hold (long distance) or worse!
