Image Maps Made Easy
I was recently asked to recommend a program for creating image maps (you know those big images that link to various different places) I recommened MapEdit from Boutell http://www.boutell.com/mapedit/ This is what I have used for a little over a year now.
MapEdit is shareware... you can download an evaluation copy that will work for 30 days.. to register is $25 USD unless you are an educational or Not-For-Profit org.
Just curious... any of you out there using a freeware/careware program for Image Mapping? If so tell us about it!!!

Well, I thought I had a gruvy answer for you, but I can't find it right...
I use MapThis, and it works wonderfully (and it was free!). The problem is that the URL listed in the 'about MapThis' returns a no dns entry error... You see, I got it as one of those 'bonus' doohickeys when I bought Nutscape 3.01 Gold.
I do have the .exe still (on the cd), and technicly I could give it to anyone that wanted it, if they didn't mind receiving a chunk of software illegally...
What a mess!

ah, the advantages of being NFP Free software hehehe
I've been wanting to tackle image maps for ages but hadn't had the time to really sit down and deal with it.

First:
I have to say this....

Pirating You may not use your domain or email box to transfer illegal, copyrighted, trademarked, patented, or trade secret material without the prior permission of the author or owner. This includes pirating software (warez), cracks and/or registration codes, in addition to offering links, directories, and redirections, to other sites that do so.

Del, you may to check the readme file and see if the version you have allows you to send it on to others or not. Most have something in them that will say if it is ok or not. If it is -- go for it-- if it is not then I have to request that "FutureQuest" hears, sees, knows, nothing about it...... thanks.
MapThis is no longer freeware It is available at
http://www.mapthis.com/ for $29.95 USD. They call it 'LiveImage' now instead of MapThis. I really don't know what their take on MapThis distribution is right off hand... if you feel up to doing some digging and letting us know that would be awesome .. thanks!

Not free anymore... bummer. No wonder I couldn't find it.
However, the legal disclaimer does say this;

This program is FREE. There is no charge to use, copy, or distribute this program. You may place this program on ANY file transfer site, of ANY kind. You may give it to your friends. You may delete it. You may use it to wrap fish in.

That's for MapThis 1.30, which I got about a year and a half ago (ish). If that sounds okay, or if anyone wants to read the complete legal documentations (there are two of em, the legal one, and the not-so-legal one hehehe).
I love lawyers... No, really...

FutureQuest *LOVES* freeware!!!

That sounds perfect Hmmm the way that reads we could even put it up in the aota Tools section for easy download... hmmm?
Thanks Del,
Deb
p.s. don't get too cozy with those lawyers now... if you mix legal mumbo jumbo with technical mumbo jumbo you will be all alone with your thoughts because the rest of us will be confused when you speak

Don't worry bout me and lawyers, that was pure sarcasm My knowledge and stuff of legalities is small, and I don't care to ever expand it!
Heck, the disclaimer thing on the top of my cgi scripts is a re-hash of someone else's disclaimer LOL
I'll dig up that cd with the old MapThis on it, and put it somewhere easily obtainable (along with text copies of the legal paper things it came with).
