pdf files not working

When I click on a link to my pdf files Acrobat Reader opens up but a blank screen appears and nothing comes up.

What am I missing? Thanks for the help.

Barry.

Can you supply a link to one of the pdf files you're having trouble with?

Did you create the PDF files?  If not, is your acrobat reader up to date?  Are you able to open other pdf files?

None of my PDF files appear to be working. One example I am having trouble with is...

http://www.tasteheavennow.net/dnloads/guar.pdf

I used Distiller in Acrobat 4.0 to print it to a file.

When I use reader to open the saved pdf file on my hard drive it is fine. The problem shows up only after ftping to the site.

Additional info: I just got a cable modem and I just ftp'ed for the first time.

Thanks again.

Barry.

Make sure that you uploaded in 'BINARY' mode...

Somehow your FTP program may be confusing .pdf with ASCII mode...

Strange.
I downloaded Barry's PDF file and it opened correctly from my hd.

Test #1.) I then uploaded Barry's file (without any changes) to Qbert (binary), and it did not open (froze up both IE 5.5) (edit: removed NS 4.7 as this works)
<test file removed>

Test #2.) I then uploaded the same file to Phoenix (binary) and it worked fine.
<test file removed>

Test #3.) But this strangeness does not apply to PDF files which I have created and saved in Acrobat 4.0; only Barry's file.
(e.g. <test file removed> works fine on Qbert.)

I have no idea why Barry's file doesn't work on Qbert but does work on Phoneix though...
Of course Phoenix is my favorite server, so maybe it just likes me

Every link in this thread worked for me - Acrobat 4.0 (whatever came with Windows) opened it up with no problems...

Correction:  all files work in NS 4.7.

However, IE 5.5 and Acrobat 4.0 (full) will still not load #1 but will load #2 (same file)

Cleared cache -> Rebooted -> Cleared cache again to be sure.

All links in this thread worked for me, too. I'm using NS 4.61 and Acrobat Reader 4.0.

Thanks for all the checking.

Another data point is that when I use CNC file manager I can't click on the pdf file and have it open like other files in my www directory. I am fairly new to FQ but shouldn't I be able to do this?

Also, I ftp'ed the pdf file in question and one other. guar.pdf worked for me one time and not the next. The other file didn't work at all and locked everything up.

Barry.

Hi Barry,

Can you tell me the results of loading test #1 and test #2 in my post above and which browser you are using?

(I'm 99.99% sure it is simply somthing which needs adjusting in the PDF file since my own PDF files always load fine, but now I'm really curious why one copy of your file loads for me and one doesn't.)
