EWS Has Arrived

Hello everyone, I'm a new client of Future Quest and so far everything is great! I transfered from CommuniTech and the support here at FutureQuest is 200% better! I love it. I feel much better being with a smaller and honest company. I've looked through a few threads and I really like the community here. Right now, I'm just waiting for InterNIC to transfer my domain, ewsonline.com . I just wanted to say HELLO to everyone. Also, I have a couple questions ...
#1, Do all CGI scripts have to be kept in the cgi-bin ? Or, can they work in a sub-directory in the "www"?

#2, I plan on purchasing a license for The Ultimate Bulletin Board on my web site. Does anyone know appox how much space a UBB takes up w/ like nine different topic forums?

Well, I'll be stopping by here a lot to see what's going on and contribute to discussion. BTW, I found out about FutureQuest from : http://www.hostinvestigator.com/discuss/

You might want to ask in the Advanced Development Forum about the CGI questions, I don't know any CGI myself, but it gets discussed a lot there by people who do!

Hi there. Out of the box cgi must be in the cgi-bin directory. However, it's real easy to run it out of web directories too. Make a file called .htaccess in the dir you want to have cgi in, and put the following line in it;

AddHandler cgi-script cgi

Make sure there's a line break after the line tho (eg AddHandler cgi-script cgi[Enter]), or it wont work *s*

You got your answer regarding CGI-bin, I see... I'm planning on getting a license for UBB too, I'd like to know what sort of fun you have setting it up when you get it, how it went and stuff like that...

Depending on the popularity of the forums, I hear they can get pretty big (i.e., 40 megs+)... but I don't know what sort of administration possibilities it has, and if it allows you to automagically delete the oldest messages, etc.

A good place to ask the question would be http://www.ultimateBB.com/ at the discussion fora they have..

Our forums are currently using just over 4 megs of space.... we will not be deleting posts until it is MUCH larger then that... I love the fact that these forums are easily searchable and as such provide many things to us...

1. A forever growing FAQ created by the site owners... what better way to make sure the real questions being asked are answered?

2. A list of sites that are mostly hosted by FQuest and the feelings of these site owners...

3. An awesome way for us to keep in touch with many of those who have chosen FQuest in such a way that is relaxed and friendly. EMail/phone is fine but usually utilized when their is a 'problem'. Via the forums we can just 'keep in touch' in addition to helping with the problems.

4. The forums help us shape the goals of FQuest ... e.g. we want this server to grow and expand via the work of all rather then the work of 'just the owners'. It may sound 'cheesy' but we really want this to be a server that owned by all of the site owners. I really do not know how to say it right


At any rate.. we love the forums

They do provide the ability to delete and/or edit posts/threads easily....

They are not free -- but very worth the price.

The neat thing about this forum, I think, is that when I have a problem or question, I can place it here any time day or night, leave for hours (I'm sure many of you are as busy as I am), come back and discover several helpful, informed responses. This is great!
A forum like this may be old hat to some of you, but it is new and exciting to me. I find myself being drawn here as soon as I get back to my computer each day.
