UBB - "The Document Contains No Data"

When attempting to change General Settings in cp.html, when I click on the button to submit the changes, I get "The Document Contains No Data".

What should I look for as the cause of this?

This means something wasn't entered correctly - the UBB does a poor job of catching and displaying errors - instead it usually returns a blank page.

Anything asking for a path would start with /big/dom/xdomain - for example:

Absolute Path to your UBB CGI directory:
/big/dom/xdomain/cgi-bin/ubb <-- assuming you created that directory and used it...

Variable Files should be same as the UBB CGI directory.

Members Directory:
/big/dom/xdomain/cgi-bin/ubb/Members <-- Case Sensitive

Non-CGI Directory:
/big/dom/xdomain/www/ubb

For the URL's, it would be http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/cgi-bin/ubb for the UBB CGI URL, and http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/ubb for the Non-cgi URL

And of course you need to enter the default username / password - Admin5 and 4tugboat, case sensitive.

Hope this helps - sounds like you're almost there

Thanks, Mandi; but, I don't think, with all my precautions, that is a mistake I made.

I often find that the UBB will ALWAYS give this error during a first-time setup. The key, I find at least, is to back out of the first-time setup screen and submit to edit general variables normally - you can then submit with no errors...
At least that's my experience.

Charles,

Pardon my ignorance but, would you please explain "submit to General Variables normally".

Ok, when you set up the UBB for the first time, you use a special link on the General entry page. When you submit, you are likely to get a Doc Contains No Data.
Now go _BACK_ to the General entry page and enter it like you would normally. If it works, then everything is fine, submit once more just to be safe. If not, go back to first-time setup and try again.

Thanks, Charles.

Frankly, I had an idea it was something like that; but, I am coming from down far on the ladder of knowledge about this stuff and at the time I read your post I had been at this all night until the not so wee hours of the morning.

I finally got it working. Frankly, I don't know what I did that finally made it work. I just kept deleting all UBB related files and re-uploading them until once I did it and it worked. It would really be nice to know what mistake I was making all this time so that if it happened again, I would know how to fix it.

I am sure it had something to do with permissions. I don't think I had paths wrong after as many times as I checked them.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
