Helloooo...anybody home???

I have been intellectually challenged and defeated by an FTP named Cute. This is a sad state of affairs but I give, cry uncle, submit to the notion that I, *I*, do not understand this gobbeldy gook and have been stymied. :-( It is worse than math, worse even than algebra! And that is baaaaadd! I hate help files for these computer programs!
Ok, now that I have vented, I will get down to business here. I can't make my links work. I thought I had finally figured it out but when I did what I thought would work, I got the Susogi Ad when I clicked on them. This is a mystery!

What have I done? My url is

<ubb>http://www.susogi.net/Priscylla-etal/index.html</ubb>

Hey Pris,

I responded to your question specifically up in the community forum since that's the post I seen first... let me know if you need any more help in the area....

Now for some help with the forums themselves

This forum utilizes UBB code for which it seems you already got that idea hehe in order for your link to work as a link use and rather then <ubb> and </ubb>

This is an awesome feature because it allows me to type and SHOW you code w/o being messed up....

for example: In this forum I can show you that

<a href="webdoc1"> some text </a> will not work for you but <a href="webdoc1.htm"> some text </a> may work for you providing there is such a file on the server

Hope this helps
Deb

hi Deb...

My free time at Cute ran out and I had to register it under the SOs name cuz he has the credit card which made it so I couldn't put the registered stuff under the Cute I had downloaded under my name so I downloaded under his name and now everything is all screwed up and now I am *totally* confused.
sigh... :-(

What I did was take everything down and try to start over going step by step. I am so confused by the Cute program. I don't have a clue what most of it does and why all those fancy things are there and the help file just confuses me more even tho I printed the whole darn thin out and have it sitting right here in black and white to read as I go along.

This is the message I get when I try to bring up my site http://www.susogi.net/Priscylla-etal/index.html :

I am sorry but this directory is restricted. Please contact the system
administrator of this site if you have become lost.

And excuse me but, I don't quite understand what <a href=> is referring to. I am using one of those fancy programs (Corel wordperfect) to translate my stuff into html codes. Soooo shouldn't it be putting in all that stuff that goes between the <?> ? I have a sneaking suspicion that trying to be lazy got me more headaches than if I had just taken the time to learn the darn code. :-/

I'm sorry to be such a whiny pain but I am bamboozled. Will keep trying tho. At least I'm stubborn

Pris

Hey Pris, I was wondering what happened. I seen the site.. it all looked good outside of a minor problem then next thing I know it's all gone hehe... now I get it

I'm going to work on finding some freeware FTP programs for everyone today (there is an FTP program preinstalled in Windows but trust me you're better off not knowing that hehe)

As far as what I was explaining to you with the <a href="..."> tags.... the tags themselves were fine it was the names of the documents you were linking to that were messed up... speaking on a wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) editor's standpoint it's like this:

You were trying to link to 'Somedoc' but it was showing up not-found.. the reason it was not found is you have 'Somedoc.html' on the server but not 'Somedoc' so if you changed it so it would link to 'Somedoc.html' rather then 'Somedoc' it would work fine how you had it.

But now heheheheh we are a bit over that issue huh Stubborn is VERY GOOD in this line of work... don't lose that!

What has happened is that you've not only deleted your site but deleted the system installed guestbook directory also... What is still there is the index file that goes in the GuestBook directory... and some wrong file permissions...

In an effort to make this less confusing for you.. What's going to fix this is having Terra re-setup your account.. he'll be doing that within the next two hours from there I'll toss you an email and you'll be good to go from scratch.

Nothing will change as far as your username/password/email etc.. we'll be just setting back up what you had.

Hope this helps
Deb

Ok, you're all setup now as you were when you started.

A 'Temp' directory was created that contains what you already had up there....

Hope this helps
