POP3 Scan Mailbox

I downloaded the POP3 Scan Mailbox from the author's website and setup everything per the manual. I have been unable to connect POP3 Scan Mailbox to the ISP server.
When I configured the account using my ISP Incoming Server “mail.charter.net“ for POP3 Server, and tried to connect I get an instantaneous red "blip" and a message that says “Disconnected. There were no messages for user.” I know that I have messages.
When I configured the account using my e-mail address for POP3 Server, and tried to connect, I get the message “Failed to connect”. Of course my ISP, Charter Communications, is of absolutely no help because POP3 Scan Mailbox “is third party software”.
Please help. I want to use POP3 Scan Mailbox because it’s simple and something I can understand.

Hello,

I have never used Charter's services so I can't speak from experience with them however I have used POP3 Scan Mailbox with a number of FutureQuest Hosted sites as well as a number of BellSouth ISP email accounts successfully.

You just need the exact POP (Incoming) Mail Server name that your ISP provides you as well as your username and password for that POP Email account... Entries are cASe sensitive so double check that and depending on your provider your username may simply be a name or it may be your full email address.

Also make sure that no other third party applications such as Firewall or Anti-Virus applications are interfering.

Hi,

As a fellow Charter subscriber (not a lot of options where I'm at)...try using pop.charter.net for your POP3 server. The other details will need to be your "Login Name" (aka username - the part in front of the @ sign in your email address) and the password for that email account. (As Bob said, be sure to watch your CasE.)

I can confirm that I'm able to access email on my Charter account using POP3 Scan Mailbox. (Just as a note: I've found that Charter's email services aren't the most reliable so be sure to give it a few tries...may just be a temporary glitch.)

Hope this helps,
Melissa

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt response. When I originally configured I used pop.charter.net for POP3 server and when I was unable to connect (as described), I called Charter and they told me to start using mail.charter.net because that was more reliable. In either case, I still can't connect. When I setup my Outlook Express account I used lower case as instructed by Charter, so that's not a problem. I also disconnected my anti-virus program and that didn't help. So, where do we go from here? I'm ready to move onto another program.
All I want to is stop e-mail spam. I want to stop it by allowing only those senders that I designate to come through to my mailbox. All others would not come through. I don't want the blocked senders feature that Outlook Express provides.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Regards,
Frank
