Received line IP - blocking range
Hey, gang...
The morons at Infusionsoft.com have ignored countless reports about the "Net Profits On demand" spammer they serve, so it's time to block them.
Their range is 63.226.35.128 - 63.226.35.255, and I want to add as little to the filter as possible, so is this right? (listed one per line for readability)
63.226.35.128
63.226.35.129
63.226.35.13*
63.226.35.14*
63.226.35.15*
63.226.35.16*
63.226.35.17*
63.226.35.18*
63.226.35.19*
63.226.35.20*
63.226.35.21*
63.226.35.22*
63.226.35.23*
63.226.35.24*
63.226.35.25*
...?
I want to make sure that something like 63.226.35.18* won't actually match 63.226.35.18 .
Thanks!

Re: Received line IP - blocking range
Can you use a CIDR range like 63.226.35.128/25

Last time I asked the FQ folks, no. They said they were either considering or working on using that notation, but for now, this is the best we can do...

The received IP filter accepts individual IPs or one of two range notations: either 63.226.35.128-63.226.35.255 or 63.226.35.128/25. Patterns using "*" are not allowed and will be ignored.

Well, the last time I asked (long ago), the CIDR notation and hyphenated version weren't accepted. Glad they are now; it'll save a lot of data.
BTW-- I think I only used the asterisk format in my local file, and expanded it for the filter.
Thanks, Bruce!

Oooh-kay.
This is interesting, because the instructions in the interface actually say:
Quote:
List of Banned IP address patterns:
Examples:
216.239.51.100 63.151.147.116 216.168.*
|
...and when I enter these:
Quote:
|
63.226.35.128-63.226.35.255 64.186.208.0-64.186.223.255 66.154.96.0-66.154.127.255 89.108.64.0-89.108.71.255 216.171.216.0-216.171.219.255 69.56.0.0-69.56.63.255
|
The CNC rejects them, and says something's invalid, and again says it accepts the asterisk format.
Now I'm officially confused...

Re: Received line IP - blocking range
I have tried to understand these range blocking rules in the past for the .htaccess file in my www directory and no matter how hard I tried to follow the rules my efforts have ended in failure and I just gave up.
Now from what I read in this thread, it appears that it wasn't my understanding but a flaw in the rules or the explanation.

You have my attention.
This is the notation that I tried and failed. And why is it not 63.226.35.128/255?

That is not valid CIDR notation...
Please view:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIDR
The '/25' is really a subnet mask, and can only go as high as '/32'...
