[FQuest Announce] SCOOTER is in Production

SCOOTER was named after the Florida River Cooter that was rescued from the Taco Bell drive-thru lane with a deadly infection back in December. Scooter, the turtle, went through a great deal of pain and medically necessary punishment yet continued to hold strong and make it through some pretty scary times. She's now alive and well in the new pond acting like any turtle should act.. strong and active as ever Don't let the turtle aspect make you think this server is slow. The turtle, and especially the server, are both quite speedy

The new SCOOTER Server is a twin to ENIGMA with a XEON 2.4GHz Dual Multi-Threaded Processor, Dual 74GB Quantum Atlas 10KIII SCSI Hard Drives, 1GB PC2100 ECC DDR Memory and she is also running FutureQuest's Secure_Mode

XEON 2.4GHz Dual Multi-Threaded Processor,
I wondered how you cool something like that, but the photo of the processor and heat sink you provided makes it clear.

LOL I was about to say the same thing Bradley... c'mooonnn... you don't *need* 2.4Ghz, we all know that 486's can do the job of a web server just as well So what say I send you my 486 and you send me Scooter (or a clone) and then I can mix audio tracks on a decent computer? Hmmm?

And when I say a clone of Scooter I mean the computer, not some Dolly The Sheep turtle dna clone

*ahem* I make weird attempts at humor around 1am....

PS ROFL at PaulKroll!!

Scooter is also AltaVista's Spider ..

Congrats on the new server, does that mean that no more sites will be added to Enigma? It's just that all my previous hosts put new servers online when they consider the newest server to be at full capacity.

Reason I am asking is because the load on Enigma is always very low, like 0.10 or 0.03 and CPU idle is always above 90%.... I kind of assumed that I was on a new server and over the coming months load would rise to the usual 1 to 3 on average ...

.. just curious how FQ works and when FQ decide a server has enough accounts on it.

LOL Paul.... I figured you wouldn't like one named after our new 'facilities' so we skipped past that one

Pete, Yes, we too bring on new servers after the existing ones reach what WE consider capacity. It is true however that what WE consider full and what other host's tend to consider full are usually quite different. We find that under loaded servers perform better -- Gee what a concept

Note also that new web sites tend to use less resources than established web sites. So even though the sites on ENIGMA right now may be creating lower loads, as they grow and establish themselves the loads may rise. If they rise too much we may need to shift an account to another server. It all depends on how things are going and with experience and monitoring FutureQuest tries to keep everything balanced out nicely.

This does NOT mean "no new accounts will go on ENIGMA" or any other server for that matter. Unless of course you can encourage those who need to cancel a Package to NOT DO IT!!!

As some packages are removed from a server, other packages are placed on it to fill the vacancy. For this reason all servers are open to new packages at one time or another. It just depends how well behaved the clients are being errrrrr I mean how well behaved FutureQuest is to prevent clients from running away

Deb
- Still trying to think of names for the new turtles so we can name the servers yet to come
