I think that's your answer.

Raiderman - just go to your local computer store and buy the sims. That way you will have a *copy* of the cd. Otherwise, look out for

If the intention is just to install "a copy" on your own computer so you can both play a network version at the same time, the CD might let you install on both machines and both play so long as the CD is in one of the networked machines during play. I know Warcraft 2 used to have a similar system.

But then, I gather a two player networked game of The Sims would be quite dull, so it probably doesn't have this feature.

You might consider relocating to China, I understand that copyright enforcement is nearly non-existant there.

Still doesn't mean it's legal ...

Common and generally accepted practice, combined with lax enforcement trumps legality. Morality is another matter. And jokes, of course are dark matter.

Oh, that's how much you know. They're going one better: The Sims Online.

I guess it's for those who find Ultima too fast-paced.

(Of course, there are ways to kill other Sims, if you're really evil...)

Heheh, actually I'm a bit interested in The Sims Online already, and was going to download the playtest until I saw it was 1.2 Gigabytes!. Yup, that won't take long over 56K.

It's a brilliant idea and will probably be the biggest revenue raiser EA has ever had, what with charging $10/month to play. I'm still looking for a new online chat place (since TalkCity is gone and Yahoo Chat is just inane), and The Sims Online looks like a good alternative - except it's so expensive. Anyone know anywhere good and free to chat?

There are two separate issues here:
Quote:
how can I copy a cd like the sims
This is actually an issue that I had with the game American McGhee's Alice. It occurred to me that creating a backup copy of the CD would be a prudent move. Attempting a direct CD to CD burn failed. Having to buy a new copy each time the original CD gets scratched is not something that I am particularly inclined to do (and it is SUPPOSED to be within our legal rights to create a backup copy for archival purposes).

The other issue:
Quote:
My wife has a copy and I would like a copy for my computer
This is generally not acceptable. Some copyright licenses allow for this sort of thing (Suse Linux for example), but such a thing is generally a violation of copyright law. The only way to do this legally would be to buy another copy as suggested by Hobbes.
