PDAs and you

Since FQ seems to be home to many tech savvy early adopters, I was kind of curious how many people here own a PDA.  Having just purchased a Handspring Visor myself, I'd love to be able to trade tips, suggestions, software, etc. with other users, since this forum is much more personable than others you run across.

Otherwise, let this thread wither away into a sad existence in a dank and dark archive

I have a Palm IIIx (is it 4 or 8 meg of RAM) with a leather organizer that I'm trying to sell, original box, manuals, everything.  Anybody interested?

I thought it was a great thing until the batteriess kept dying out. Since then I bought a 160mhz laptop with 2 gig drive and 32 meg of ram for $250. And it includes a car adaptor.

Well Dave you probably got a good deal on the laptop, I've used palms off and on, don't have one right now, the 3x is 4 megs of ram, I followed the handspring for awhile, they seem pretty cool. Hey dave if you really want to get rid of the 3x you can email me what you are looking for.

Having used a Psion 3c for a couple of years, I was always a bit sceptical of Palm type devices (no keyboard -- that can't be much use!).

However, after playing with a friend's Palm V I was really impressed with how easy it is to use, and amazed to find that the Graffiti text input actually works well. There is also a stack of third party software available.

I bought a Handspring Visor deluxe a few months ago, and I am well pleased with it. It's easy to use, and the synchronisation with a PC is extremely slick! Plus with all the Springboard modules being developed, there's no end to the gadgetry. It would even keep Justin amused for a day or two . . .

If you haven't got a copy of HackMaster yet you should get one right now, and have a look at some the utilities that are available for download. I particularly recommend MiddleCapsHack (essential!) and TealLaunch (useful). The best site I have found for software downloads is www.palmgear.com

And while the on-screen keyboard is fast and efficient, if you're a big typer, I highly recommend one of the many stowaway keyboards available.  A full-sized keyboard which folds up into a package the size of your handheld, with a docking bay.  Great stuff.

And I agree, the Visors are great things.  8Mb RAM, Palm OS, and the flexiblity, expandability and added functionality of the Springboard slot.  I can't wait for the Geode GPS system to be released for it later this month.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Deb, please yank me out of this thread now...

I have enough techno toys at this moment and don't need any more (drooling) diversions...
