Google down?

Is anyone else experiencing problems accessing Google? I've not been able to do a search for almost two days - can't get their home page either.

Hi Chris,

I've used Google rather extensively the last couple of days, and am able to get to their home page right now with no problem.

You might want to try a traceroute to see if you can discover some routing problems between your computer and Google.

Chris, no problems here either. Try Sheila's suggestion and do a traceroute to Google.
Maybe you're being routed over a KPNQwest line and, as you maybe know, that network has largely been shut down, because KPNQwest (note; not Qwest, nor KPN) went bankrupt.

Tracerouting in Windows: open a DOS window (command prompt) and type 'tracert www.google.com' (sans quotes).

I'm not experiencing any trouble today but had been experiencing a lot of trouble during the last week or so (same as you, not able to get through to the homepage or do a search for up to 2 days at a time). I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having those problems

Thanks for the feedback, folks.

Tried a tracert but it timed out. As of now, I'm still unable to connect with Google. Suspect it may be my ISP here in Cyprus - everything has been slow lately!

Thanks again - and warm regards to all from sunny, idyllic Cyprus!

I'm in Canada, and Google always attempts to redirect me to google.ca when typing in the .com equiviliant. I've noticed sometimes the redirect doesn't work correctly, and I have to manually type in google.ca to reach the site. Not sure if that applies to your case in any way

Thanks, George, but I've tried typing in the Google URL. Still can't contact. I'm waiting for my ISP to comment!

I don't know if it means anything, but my stats have been down the last couple of days and I noticed that Google just added a page that I created about a month ago. Maybe their servers were busy batch indexing.

Oh, I just noticed that for the first time in about 6 months, Google indexed my images! They seem to index my regular pages about four times as often. If their service is affected each time they index images, I'm glad they don't do it so often.

I've never had any problems getting on to Google during the duration of this thread. I don't think any indexing has had an effect on the speed or connection.
