As some of you might know, I bought a Diamond Rio MP3 player around Christmas. Now I'm sucked in to the whole MP3 madness. If I can find use for my little technological wonder, I will use it everywhere and anywhere.

Does anyone else around here have a Rio? I've never seen anyone else with one anywhere, but the media hypes them up to be all the rage. (I don't care, the rage or not the rage.) You'd THINK Justin would have one right?

In case you're wondering, I got the metallic silver 500 model (color looks a heck of alot better than in the pics, and it has to be the better looking of the 3 variations). Was it worth the money? Indeed.

Just picture me sitting here making my whole CD collection into MP3's.
Scary.

You'd THINK Justin would have one right? Nah - only 64 megs, that's one CD. So, hm, I spend 20 minutes loading a CD's worth of MP3's into the player (assuming I have already extracted/compressed the tracks) via the parallel port, so I can walk around listening to a CD. Seems it would be easier to simply pop a CD into the discman...

I like the idea, but 64 megs is just not enough for my taste... I have 15 gigs in the car, so I have instant access to every CD in my collection and still have room to spare :)[nbsp][nbsp]Though a Rio would have been cheaper, I don't want to spend 20 minutes loading up an hour of music for a 3 hour drive... And I don't walk, except from car --> house and vice-versa... ;)

I have a Diamond Rio 500 (got it 4 months ago). Works as it should, though I find the thing zaps up batteries like crazy. 4 fours, and a replacement is needed.

Justin, you could buy extra flash memory for it (but they are EXPENSIVE). As I hear more and more about your car setup dealy, it suits your need much better. Although I'm not sure about where you're gonna be driving for 98 hours any time soon. :D[nbsp][nbsp]I've found the 20+ songs I can fit on it have been more than plenty for me.

George, you are certainly right about the battery usage. If I use it alot, I have to change the batterry daily so if helps if I just buy a pack of AA batteries at Costco/Sams for the same price I would pay for 4 batteries at Publix. ;)

I don't really comprehend how the battery usage is calculated. It might have to do with volume and LCD settings as well.

:) And it doesn't take 20 minutes, either. :P
