View Full Version : Include problems, please help
Every once in a while the stuff included in my page starts to double up, the confusing this is that it only shows the last half again... and only sometimes.
Even if I refresh, it's still there until I reupload. Am I writing the include tag wrong?
<!--#include virtual="s/side.shtml"-->
Other times it looks OK (everything is added in properly) except at the end of the page it writes the tag... most of the time it shows perfectly.
I've searched all over for the answer and must be missing something obvious, but can't seem to see it myself.
Here are some screenshots:

Hard to say without seeing all of the code on the page for this one... I find it hard to imagine it's randomly showing different results unless there are in fact changes made to the page or different browsers being used.
When I look at your second image the first thoughts that come to my mind is a broken table tag....

- In Summary -- I'm of no help :P
I just ran it through a validator to see, and no... no broken table tags or errors other than skipping alt tags and unknow entities (they are inside sponsor urls so I doubt that's the problem.
The site is http://aplusfreestuff.com the include page is at:
http://aplusfreestuff.com/s/side.shtml
What gets me is that it seems so random, but once a page has the error until I re-paste (the exact same include tag) and reupload it's messed up. I've only seen it using IE6, (may have on 5.5 before I upgraded but I'm not sure), but next time I see it I'll check in Opera & Netscape.

I'm not sure if I'm clear on something. Is this problem happening constantly with a particular upload? Eg, you upload the file and it's broken until you upload it again?
If so, are you using CuteFTP by chance? I had an issue a while back where CuteFTP was appending to the file instead of overwriting it. I believe this to be a bug in the program. It said it was going to overwrite it but if you look at the FTP log, it clearly sent an append command...
Might be something to look into. I've personally found that in CuteFTP 2.6, I have to delete a text file before re-uploading it (doesn't happen with "binary" files)...
I just found the same thing happening in Opera, so I'm guessing it's not a browser issue.
Justin:
Yeah, I tend to upload changes very often (daily), and I always use leechFTP. I just tried uploading with wsFTP, and that may have helped... I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Thanks!
