Hi there! :o

One of my clients got the following bounce-back message:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at deedee.futurequest.net.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following
addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<vscherk@skynet.be>:
195.238.3.134 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 5.1.1 <vscherk@skynet.be>... User unknown
Giving up on 195.238.3.134.

Any clues what might be up?

Thanks!

Lauran

Hello Lauran,

Well that appears to be the Local Mail Server stating that the remote host, in this case skynet.be, is rejecting the email because it does not recognize that user [vscherk]

Hope this helps,
Bob

- I'd rather get a bounce than an AOL gobble :QTpacman: -

That email address doesn't exist, or at least the mail server at Skynet doesn't know it. There's no obvious problem at the Skynet mail server, I just tested it with the skynet.be address of a friend and the server didn't object to that.
Double-check the address...

Hello Lauran,
Don't worry about the e-mail bouncing back. I have heard that e-mails getting obsolvete of around 5% at any time and this seems to be correct. I have about the same rate for my site.

If the reply tells you that the user is unknown, than you out of luck. But sometimes - very rarely - an e-mail account just expires and the owner renews it later. So if the address is important keep it a while and check later again, otherwise I would suggest just to delete it from you address book or you would end up with many invalid e-mail addresses not worth anything.
