View Full Version : hello and question about pop up ads

Hi all.
I have just signed up with FQ, which I am very pleased about, and uploaded my site's files. I'm already having a problem, unfortunately! :)
My site used to be hosted on Geocities, and the pop up ads inherent to that host are still showing up on my site. I went into the C&C, opened one of the files having the problem, found some server-added code at the base of the page, deleted this code, saved the page, went back into my site and refreshed the page. However the pop ups are still appearing.
So: I would appreciate it if anyone would tell me what probably obvious and simple mistake I am making!
And, um, glad to be here. ;)
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Persephone

Hello Persephone and Welcome to FutureQuest
I am still seeing what appears to Geocities related code in your index.html.

Removing it completely should get you moving in the right direction.
Hope this helps :)
Bob
I'm certainly no expert :( but there's a Javascript at the end of your code which looks like the offender. I suggest you remove it and upload afresh.
In the hope that this is helpful. :\
Edit: Oops - Bob beat me to it with more detail.

Thank you Bob and BOF. Your suggestion(s) worked like a charm once I'd removed that code from all the pages in one go. I'm grateful!

Persephone
I believe you tracked the problem down, but just in case others are making a switch from a free provider to FQ, the problem you had is a result of downloading the page(S) FROM the free host and then uploading them to FQ.
One should never download a site from a free provider to use elsewhere or you will end up with proprietary code in it.
Now, aren't you glad you don't have, like 1,000 pages?

Yup. That's exactly what I did. (I didn't have a backup or FTP so I figured it would be a workaround.)

Deeply, I assure you.
Are FQ thinking about putting up a page to help almost total newbies like myself? Because the help files here are comprehensive alright, but not written for the beginner. If you don't mind me saying so.
