These are GREAT!!! It's exciting for us to see the logo in action :)

Some "names" that come to mind...

"Disturbing, Dancing, Diamond-Doohickey"

"Logon's Run"

"Dancing Baby's Little Logo"

"Arthur's Proof Of Insanity"

"Al"

Of course, the IBM tradition would be to assign a TLA along the lines of DFL, Dancing FutureQuest Logo.

Having actually contacted ET via their prodigious output of SETI units processed on beefed up servers, FutureQuest will be making one last NOC move . . . the DNS propagation's gonna be a killer this time, but at least we'll have bandwith that's the envy of the Milky Way . . .

Edit . . . yes, really, I know it's bandwidth . . .

sheila
09-15-2001, 06:34 PM
Here's what I'm guessing:

If FutureQuest is going to start tracking bandwidth on FTP and email and so forth, we're going to start getting dinged in the bandwidth area for things that previously didn't impact bandwidth. (BTW, is FTP going to account for both uploads and downloads? :( or only downloads? :) )

FutureQuest already has generous bandwidth alottments (I've compared), but it wouldn't surprise me in the least, that coupled with more precise accounting in that area, we also got an increase???

<boy am I going to be embarrassed if I'm wrong...oh, well, always willing to go out on a limb...>

I know, I know...
No confirm, no deny...

But Deb said we could guess!

<added later>
You know, maybe I shouldn't have said that guess. It's probably unrealistic. Bandwidth allowances here at FQ are already generous, and they've said before that the bandwidth on the Platinum accounts is about all that community servers can handle.

So I hereby withdraw my original guess and replace it with:

dedicated servers???

I know many people are hoping for that.

You know, there is really no good way to guess. And Deb just enjoys the teasing too much. It's not healthy, I'm sure. :P
</added later>

Deb
09-15-2001, 06:49 PM
BTW, is FTP going to account for both uploads and downloads? or only downloads? This would in fact include all bandwidth for both upload and downloads. Though a few years ago I wouldn't have been able to comprehend charging for uploads, at this time the uploads are much more serious due to things such as webcams which continue to upload images every few seconds 24 hours per day and 7 days per week. For those with normal upload usage the hit really wont be noticable....

Deb
- I didn't think they noticed me :BPG2:

My guess - widening MySQL availability.

I'm afraid this is based entirely on Terra's remarks about rearranging MySQL domains in the server announcements forum, so it probably counts as cheating, but... I'm guessing that Silver gets some MySQL availability as well.

(apart from this, I'm guessing deelyboppers for everyone)

PaulKroll
09-15-2001, 07:42 PM
I'll place some guesses...

1) Dedicated servers
2) New e-mail options/large e-mail accounts (over the 500 member max on EZ-MLM)
3) FQ sponsors concert event where Cher is launched via catapult while singing impossibly annoying "Believe". ("Cher-and-Cher-aflight, 2001")

4) MySQL servers set up to mirror/load share.

That about sums up what I was feeling as well! It's hard to explain but I think our little QT really does a good job of it! We keep saying "There's more to it than just hardware and bandwidth" but how do you put into words the "feeling" a true community gives?

You guys are just plain AWESOME!!!!!!
