I've been very pleased with ikonboard so far. Looks very nice and is adequate for my site traffic. However, I just discovered that as board administrator I don't seem to have access to members' passwords. On giving it a little thought, I realized that this is probably a good idea, but still, it creates a problem for me: I need to move some messages that have been posted to an inappropriate forum and to repost them properly, I need to log in the member, or the message will appear to be posted by me, the administrator. Am I missing something here? (Probably) Any suggestions? :(

Cybercrone,

As administrator you do have access to your members' passwords (I'm assuming you are running a series 2 version. In the admincenter go to Member Control, click on the letter which the member's name begins with and then click Edit . There you have access to their password.

Hi,

The password is also available under
cgi-bin/ikonboard/members/nameofmember.cgi

It's the entry directly after the username within each members file.

Also note, that while this will allow you to move the post or edit, making it appear that the user did it, you may want to simply move it and include a comment as Administrator as to why you moved it.

Just a thought ?

Have a Good One,
Bob

Oh man, do I feel stupid. :o Before I posted my question here I DID go to member profile but I made an assumption that what I saw on the first screen was what I could edit so I didn't press edit. Sigh. What would I do without this forum? %) Bob's suggestioin is a good one, too -- it would maybe keep people from going HUH?

iB3 is now out and has a much improved admin centre, which allows admins access to all aspects of a users details.

Just don't leave the install script in place (which I did) and when backing up the database (which can be done from the control panel) don't leave the backups in under the forum directory tree (which I did) because some kind person can come along and use the install script to wipe your entire forum directory.
