OK, I just like the subject line...
I've a question about setting up printer sharing using Samba on my LAN. I have it working now, but I am curious about why one particular part of the setup was so ludicrously difficult.
My Linux server is running SuSE 7.1, so I followed the instructions in the manual to enable the SMB service and to activate the swat web admin interface. All very nice. It took me a few goes to sort out the correct share and guest settings, but that's just laziness on my part (not reading the docs thoroughly up front, basically).
What I'm curious about is why it was so hard to get Windows ME to recognise the changes I was making in the printer config; having (for instance) changed the guest mapping scheme to not require a password, I needed to delete and recreate the printer mapping in Windows to recognise this.
Is there an easier way of reauthenticating network printers under Windows?
