I posted this under graphics but no one responded in ten days so I'm reposting here:
FQ folks: I really like some of the emoticons (smilies) you're using with UBB. Are these proprietary or public domain, or a mix? If proprietary, can anyone point me to a source of public domain ones? If they are public domain, may I cop some from FQ, and if so, how?
As far as I know they are all public domain...... Go for it... :)
Deb
- Yeap, I did that too :P

Also check out Crack's Smilies website (http://www.smilecwm.com/) for a wide array of public domain smilies.

Thanks, Armand.
Nice Web site! (I visit sites of all folks who respond to one of my posts, if I have time) Interesting and cheerful use of colors, especially. Not many sites with dark backgrounds have colors for text that show up well in IE. It's also a nice discovery since I'm a writer, so I'll be back.

Thanks Cyber... been interested in changing to light colors for a couple years now but members and staff freak at the thought. Thus the nickname of the 'blue cafe' *shrug*
Will have to check out your site too

Armand....Well, mine is not of as general interest as yours. My writer persona web page is www.patriciamcconnel.com; writing business stuff, very hodge podge, is www.wordsculptors.com (mostly technical writing but also portal to poet Luiz Rodriguez), and I also have a site www.misfitwomen.org which obviously is mainly for women altho men visit it too. No nifty design like yours; I'm an amateur.
Oh my gosh an entire site devoted to just smilies!!!! 8} Awesome!!!
Cyber, I checked out your site and it looks fine. Im an amateur as well, learning more all the time. If youre going to put an Amazon.com graphic on your page you might as well get paid for it. Why don't you join their affiliates program? I did.

Hi, David....
Well, that's why the logo is there -- I'm an affiliate. The actual link to Amazon is where it says "order the book" under the description of Bernie Cole's book.
Love all the kitties on your site. Was interested that some? all? of the photos were done with a digital camera and that the quality is excellent, so I am curious what kind of camera you have because I had read that the quality of digital photos isn't so good, especially color.
It is at least half an hour since I left here to go see your site -- I got diverted into trying to find out who the real Mahir is. What an amusing story and a delightful person!
Ok I didnt realize that. I would then suggest that you add a link to the graphic anyway using your affiliate link so that if people click on it you get the 5% if they buy anything else there.
Im really glad you enjoyed my site!!! I have lots more to put
on there just havent had much time to do so.
As far as the photos, no I dont have a digital camera yet. I scan photos in with a Microtek 300dpi scanner which was highly rated at the time. I may soon buy a new scanner with 2400 dpi and get even better resolution! :) I think the digital cameras with good res and color cost more money. Lots more.

Good idea about linking Amazon to the graphic as well. Will do.
Somebody on your site said they took the photos with a digital camera -- obviously it wasn't you. Oh well. That photo was so good it encouraages me to buy one -- I'll just keep checking reviews.
Oh THOSE photos!!!!
Yes I know what you mean.
Trixie and Nugget.
My cousin took those. Ill ask her what camera she used
and get back to you.
David
Here's the info from my cousin who took the digital photos:
"The pictures were taken with my old digital camera, a Kodak Dc 215. I
got a new one, Olympus Camedia 3000. If you thought the old one was good, you aint seen nothin' yet. Old one was 1 megapixle. New one is 3.3. Pictures are as good as 35mm. But for putting on the net, the old one was great. Much easier to use too."

David...Thanks for taking the trouble to ask your cousin. It's so helpful to get input from real users. I am always suspicious of "user" reviews on the Internet, since there is no way of knowing who actually posts them -- could be the company's marketing people!
I have seen two professional photographers using Olympus digital but I didn't have chance to ask them what they thot of the camera. Combining that with your cousin's input (quality of photo is more important to me than ease of use) and my own good experience with Olympus (I am still using my OM-1, thirty years old, and two other Olympus cameras, including as ASP), I think that will be my choice. Again, thanks for your help!
